Erasing the DEW Line in Canada’s Arctic

The U.S. Air Force built a line of 63 radar and communications sites across Alaska and northern Canada, called the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line. The Line was eased out of active duty in 1985, but its remains still pose a threat to the fragile Arctic environment. Cleaning up the DEW Line will take 25 years and is Canada’s biggest environmental project.
