Cherokee Canada, Inc. Buys Quebec GM Plant
Cherokee Investment Partners III, L.P., in association with Cherokee Canada,
Inc., purchased a 232-acre former automobile manufacturing plant in Boisbriand,
Quebec from General Motors of Canada Limited. Cherokee will redevelop 82 acres
for mixed-use retail, 54 acres for light industrial and 60 acres for residential
uses. The remaining 36 acres will be used for parkland, open space and infrastructure
needs.
The property is located 15 miles north of Montreal at the crossroads of two
major highways. The area surrounding the site includes industrial, retail, office
and residential properties. Population in the surrounding areas has grown by
more than 30 percent over the past decade, generating demand for additional
housing and retail.
Environmental issues on the site include soil contamination from underground
storage tanks, hydraulic hoists and a fuel oil spill.
