Denise Sheehan was named Acting Commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, effective February 3, 2005. Sheehan had held the position of Executive Deputy Commissioner since January 2002, where she was responsible for providing policy direction to the department’s executive staff and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department.

Sheehan replaces Erin Crotty, whose resignation became effective February 2. Lynette Stark had been named Crotty’s successor, but she was unable to accept the position due to an illness in her family. BFN
