Rediscovering a Forgotten Neighborhood
The Southside neighborhood of Greensboro, North Carolina, located just south of downtown along the railroad tracks, remained largely forgotten by the city for decades. In 1989, when local activists worked to revitalize Greensboro’s downtown, Southside’s assets were rediscovered. The neighborhood clearly had “good bones” for revitalized downtown residences and businesses.

A Sense of Place
The Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) works with its members and partners to meet a challenge issued by THE U.S. EPA for America’s corporations — reviewing where ecological reuse is viable in land restoration and cleanup programs, and then actively pursuing these options.

New Financial Incentives for South Carolina Textile Communities
The Textiles Communities Revitalization Act aims to encourage investment, remediation and redevelopment of these abandoned mills by providing property tax credits or other income incentives.

North Carolina Brownfields Program Successes
To date, the North Carolina Brownfields Program has been a true success story with 53 completed agreements, 60 more pending and more than $1 billion of committed private investment.
