Four projects have recently qualified for Pennsylvania Brownfield Action Team assistance.
Driftwood Borough in Cameron County is sponsoring a project to use the former Metal Wire facility as a wood pellet and wood molding manufacturing and marketing facility using regional soft woods. Additional buildings already are being planned for this seven-acre-plus site. The new facility is projecting 15 initial jobs, expanding to as many as 40 jobs in three years.
The EMI/Gunite Reuse Opportunity project is made up of three parcels comprising 15.3 acres in the industrial corridor of Erie. The site had served the city as a foundry since 1888. Upon demolition of what has been described as a community eyesore, 13 acres of shovel-ready industrial property will be created in Erie. Preliminary concept plans show development of mixed commercial/light industrial reuses, creating an estimated 325 new jobs. Several developers and a neighboring property owner already have shown an interest in this property.
The proposed Greentree Business Center is a 66-acre brownfield that includes the former Raymark Industries Inc. in Manheim Borough, Lancaster County. Demolition of buildings, excavation of contaminated soil, removal of storage tanks and other remediation is needed to make this site available for industrial use again. Upon completion, this project is expected to create more than 500 jobs at the new business and manufacturing park on the site.
