From Wire Rope to the Kelly Cup

By George J. Tyler, Esq. and James Aversano III, Esq.

As we write this article, the Trenton Titans, an East Coast Hockey League powerhouse, hold a 2–0 game lead in the best of seven Kelly Cup championship series against the Florida Everblades. In the most recent game, the Trenton Titans scored two third-period goals to come from behind in a 2–1 win. The Titans now have a significant advantage in the series as they contend for their first-ever ECHL championship. They are returning to the Sovereign Bank Area for games 3, 4 and, if necessary, game 5. It is their home arena that is the subject of this story.

The Sovereign Bank Arena, owned and operated by Mercer County, New Jersey, is something of a come-from behind-victory in and of itself. It is one of New Jersey’s pioneering brownfield success stories that both economically and environmentally reflects the best of outcomes that can result from public-private partnerships. Often such partnerships are the way to make impossible dreams come true.
